BOOTS, BOOTS AND BOOTS

Sitting at the City Bakery yesterday enjoying my giant chocolate chocolate chip cookie, I did a quick snap poll.  Fully 50% of people in line were wearing UGGS, the other 35% wearing trainers and the final 15% wearing flat knee high leather boots.

Now, I get UGGS —  they are comfy, cozy and soft and lined with shearling.  I definitely understand the appeal of a squishy slipper on one’s feet. However — they are NOT waterproof making them totally impractical for any slushy snow days here in the city and, they make you look schleppy.  There, I said it.

Schleppy is GREAT for when you are at home relaxing in the winter with you flannel cozies on sipping a cup of tea, or apres ski at the lodge in powder snow sipping a hot toddy.  But on the streets, as a fashion statement, or an everyday to and from work shoe I just get sad, because they make people look blah. And I want people to look and feel fab in their shoes.

My solution for winter boot blues is an emerging trend I have seen bubbling up everywhere from Madame Matavou’s shop on West 10th to the street of Milan.  It’s the Cowboy Boot. They are practical for snow and slush, they look cute and most of all they too feel cute — a 2 to 2 1/2 inch heel gives you a little zingy lift throughout your day, and the pointed toe, while not constricting, sleeks the silhouette. Me-ow!

I am going to become a shoe evangelist traveling the country converting people from UGGS to Cowboy Boots.  I will hold tent revivals and wear an excellent pair of python custom made Cowboy Boots and women across America will be transformed.

Yeee- haw!!

Thank goodness someone else out there is anti-ugg too! I was worried I was the only one.
